Allen Hoyt has been involved in aviation since graduating from Cornell University in 1967 with a BA in English/Economics. He spent 1968-1976 as a carrier pilot in the U.S. Navy flying the Grumman built A6A Intruder attack aircraft. Following his military service he spent two years flying charter in Washington, British Columbia, and Idaho and then joined Western Airlines as a second officer in 1978. When the airline industry contracted in the early 80’s he returned to Idaho to become involved in the business side of General Aviation. He worked at Western Aircraft, Inc. from 1982-1992 while it was a subsidiary of the Morrison Knudsen Company (predecessor of Washington Group International).

Hoyt spent 1993 and part of 1994 flying a Cessna Caravan turboprop aircraft throughout East Africa in support of relief efforts sponsored by the Save the Children Organization.

In 1995 Hoyt teamed up with Al Hilde, Jr., a businessman from Jackson, Wyoming, and they purchased the stock of Western Aircraft, Inc. After leading the Aircraft Sales Division to record sales and numerous awards from Pilatus Aircraft Limited, Hoyt was promoted to CEO and Vice Chairman of Western Aircraft in June, 2004.
